"it's
not as good...this was recorded at scott's house in 1985. he was the bass
player for a few months in '86-'87. i didn't see him again for 15 years
until i found out through a mutual friend that he was living in my neighborhood
in philadelphia. i stopped over to say 'whatup rodent!' and he had this
tape of the band practicing - which turns out to be the oldest known
recording of the band. we now actually live on the same street, small
world." --- rokojoe d.

**A NOTE FROM JOE D.: track 24 - best
practice ever**
"jake with his ever twisted
optimism declares that this was the 'best practice ever.' scott on bass who
aspired to other musical projects responds 'wrong! worst practice ever!'
matt gets the final word with a sage observation about roko's progress as a
band: 'no way - they all sound the same' and slams off the record button."
-- rokojoe d.

THE
GREAT ESCAPE
"the
great escape songs were recorded in the basement of a video arcade on south
university called the great escape in late '85 or early '86 (?) this was jake's
last gig on vocals before he split for the coast. scott had left the band and
davey was playing bass (thanks davey) brother ashe steps in for a guest vocal on
crippled children suck - a meatmen cover. the guy who booked in the show, who
was also the assistant manager of the arcade gave us the choice: a tape of the
show or cash payment. i think the band made the right choice - the money ($15
tops) would have been spent on a bag a shake and some 40's anyway. the guy must
have forgotten to press record at the beginning -- so the first few minutes of
the roko theme song were lost to the ether of time.
the building and the giant campus theater
that stood next to it were demolished soon after to make way for the mall that
is now home to corporate mcDeath burger and tower records." -- rokojoe d.
